THE SERIOUS ISSUES
Now, you guys understand that I was never the sort that would have a furore over politics. Was never much into that. Well, lest you count world issues as being part of politics.
Today, I was reading the papers (wow) while having breakfast (in reality, i was trying to find deals for the GSS). I decided to read the headline about US talking about China becoming a threat. Somehow, that did'nt bother me that much cos I pretty much figured they won't be doing anything to Singapore anyway. That's besides the point. The first or second paragraph threw me off a lil.
It stated that "China is rapidly extending its military reach, with more long-range aircraft and weapons that could allow it to compete with the United States and potentially pose a threat to other countries in the resion, the Pentagon said in its annual report to Congress".
Funny how no one ever complains about America's military strength and it being a threat to neighbouring countries. I just thought it weird cos I wonder how's it any of the US' problem. Is it cos you are slowly losing grip of the world and that you no longer are the sole controller in weapons? But then, one has to wonder, is one super power better than having two. With two, you probably would have bigger destruction if all hell ever breaks lose. But yet, end of the day, really, who made America boss? Just cos they were the biggest military power then in the past and they managed to get everyone to drop arms other than themselves? Now question would be, who's gonna protect the rest of the world from the US.
The US invasion into Iraq is questionable. Was it better having Saddam there? Yes despite atrocities commited by him but I guess in some way, at least there was order.
But maybe end of the day, all this is inevitable. And maybe it's human (or politics) that we extend our arm when you see a need for help. If our neighbour is being abused, should we just stand quiet and watch?
One thing I'll never quite agree with is the freedom of weapons in the US. How weapons are so freely available to people. Yes, there sitll needs to be licenses to own guns but you'd at least hope that gun owners would be a lil more responsible in storing them. Else, what's to stop a kid from gettin into your home, stealin your gun n using it for a robbery. Funny as it may be, it's a reality.
but then again, our country's having a lil bit more of this drama these days. This year in particular, as pointed out by Fat Boy.
It's such a simple solution. Remove sale of arms, you remove the potential shooting incidences from happening. And to make it a bigger deterent for owning arms, jail the bloody bugger if he looses his gun man. That should teach them to be more responsible when holding a weapon.
