Creed for Optimists
Optimists. You either love them or hate them. The people who dislike them typically write them off as shallow and silly, for believing in hope and humanity when clearly this life is a miserable and pointless enterprise which steadily disintegrates into eventual nothingness.

Well, "doom and gloom" does inspire much drama and poetry, but it really doesn't help make you better or the world a better place. It doesn't make you feel good either.

It's been said that in the end, the pessimist may be proven right, but the optimist has a much better time along the way.

Optimists also tend to be more successful people, and help to inspire others to achieve their dreams and perform courageous deeds. They give us the confidence to look within and discover that we, too, have an unlimited supply of joy, knowledge, and love.

But why are some people so hopeful and positive, while others see the writing on the wall and claim that it's a forgery?

Well, optimists choose to look on the bright side. They deliberately live their lives by certain principles, if you will, which guide them towards greater love, happiness and success.

Christian D. Larsen encapsulates these guidelines in his "Creed for Optimists", written in 1912.

Be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

Talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.

Make all your friends feel there is something special in them.

Look at the sunny side of everything.

Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best.

Be as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

Give everyone a smile.

Spend so much time improving yourself that you have no time left to criticize others.

Be too big for worry, too noble for anger, and too strong for fear.
